A Gainesville Campus USA Credit Union received an unexpected surprise Friday afternoon. About 1 p.m. a white Chevrolet Tahoe crashed through a wall of its lobby.

The crash caused structural damage to the building at 1200 SW 5th Avenue, when an unidentified woman in her 60s, drove her SUV into the offices of the bank, said Ben Tobias, spokesman for the Gainesville Police Department.

Paramedics said woman had a medical condition that caused her to rapidly accelerate into the building. She was taken to North Florida Regional Medical Center

Tobias said she is not a suspect in any crimes.

"It was an accident," he said.

Campus USA declined comment on the crash.

Justin Littlejohn, a finance major at the University of Florida, said he saw the SUV sticking out of the credit union as he walked home from class atabout 2 p.m.

“This is crazy,” Littlejohn said.  “I’ve never seen anything like this before; it adds a lot of adventure to our day in Gainesville.”

As they stood near the building's parking lot, Vincent Fuller and a friend had their minds on the people inside.

“We just hope that no one was sitting inside right by the wall,” Fuller said.

Tobias confirmed that no one was injured.

Thomas Nightingale said the accident was the craziest thing he’s seen in Gainesville. He said he's relieved to hear the driver should be okay.

“That’s a miracle,” Nightingale said.  “That’s a little miracle right there.”
