La Chua Trail Partially Closes, Undergoes Construction

By and

The La Chua Trail, located at Paynes Prairie, is facing a few temporary closures due to construction and flooding.

Reconstruction of the boardwalk is in the works to replace old, rotting wood. Matt Bledsoe, the assistant park manager of Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park says the wood has been rotting for several years.

Employees are making an effort to accommodate the public by working on the boardwalk through the week and allowing visitors to walk the boardwalk and search for sunbathing alligators during the weekend.

Due to high levels of rain in the summer months, portions of the grass trail are also closed because of flooding.

Bledsoe says there is no timetable for when these portions of the park will be opened.
