Officials in Marion County have identified the victim in yesterday’s house fire in Silver Springs as Paulette Martin.

Martin, 71, was receiving hospice care and had limited mobility.

Twenty-four Marion County Fire Rescue firefighters arrived at 2:25 a.m. at 2315 SE 175th Terrace Road to find 50 percent of the home in flames.

A 42-year-old man, who was one of Martin’s caretakers, was also inside the house at the time of the fire, but was able to escape.

The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office and Marion County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the cause of the death and fire.

Editor’s Note: Changes were made to reflect information on the victim, as well as the victim’s caretaker.
