Two Alachua county residents were arrested early Thursday morning after two incidents of aggravated assault and armed robbery in Gainesville, according to Gainesville Police Department.

At around 12:50 a.m., two University of Florida students were approached by Jared Cristopher Williams, 22, who was holding a small handgun. According to the press release, the students fled, called 911 and activated an on-campus Emergency Blue Light phone.

The students told police Williams was wearing dark clothing, a tank top and a black bandana with white lettering, according to the UF Alert.

An hour later, GPD was notified of an armed robbery at the 800 block of NW 15th St., that matched the description of the man given by the UF students, according to the press release. The victim immediately notified police and gave them a description of the car, a gold Ford, according to Ben Tobias, public information officer at Gainesville Police Department.

Update: Williams fired the gun off to the side of the victim to show that it was loaded, but the gun did not go off.  Williams obtained 20 dollars from the victim, according to a police report.

GPD and UFPD officers located and pursued the car, driven by Kaetlyn Elizabeth Smith, 19, onto the UF campus, according to GPD.

UF students received text and email alerts warning them to stay inside if they were within a half mile of Lake Alice.

Smith eventually lost control at the intersection of Fraternity Row and Museum Road, and was immediately arrested, while Williams ran into the University Gardens forested area, according to police.

According to police, helicopters, K-9 units and police officers were called out to search the area around Lake Alice, and within an hour he was found in Lake Alice.

While Williams was being apprehended, he was bitten by a K-9 unit dog, according to Gainesville police.

The police say they found a small handgun and bandana after searching the vehicle.

Williams and Smith are being charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and additional pending charges.

Update: According to police reports, Williams said that he did not remember any robberies he committed or attempted to commit because he was on a new drug he called “boosie.” Smith said that her and Williams had been planning the robberies for a few days to get some money.
