Lake City Shooting Injures Three

A shooting at Annie Mattox Park in Lake City left three people injured Tuesday night, said Mike Lee, spokesperson for Lake City Police Department.

One person was taken by helicopter to UF Health Shands Hospital and is in critical condition, Lee said.

Staci Denson, who was present at the shooting, said she is a friend of the critically injured boy. Denson said the 16-year-old was shot twice in the lungs.

The two others injured were treated at a local hospital and one was released that night, Lee said. The other is in stable condition and remains at the hospital.

Denson said a large group of people converged on the park all at once.

“Next thing I know, I hear gunshots,” she said.

Denson was at the park with her sister and young nephew when bullets started coming from all angles, she said. They all ducked and ran. She said she could have easily been shot.

Lee said more people may have been injured by the shots and urges anyone with information to come forward.

An officer was already in the area when he heard gunshots. Lee said police arrived on the scene less than a minute after at 7:29 p.m.

A crowd of about 25 people were at the scene when police arrived.  The investigation is ongoing and no suspects have been identified yet, according to Lee.

People with information about the shooting are encouraged to call the Lake City Police Department at 386-752-4344.
