Florida Lawmakers Consider Moving Voter Registration Online

Florida voters may see some changes in voter registration methods before the next local elections.

Two bills that intend to implement an online voter registration system are moving through the state house and state senate. SB228 and HB227 both aim to streamline the voter registration process.

Richard Newman, an internet safety expert, said there are two significant risks to an online voter registration system: preventing voters who should be able to vote from voting and allowing voters who shouldn’t be able to do so. Twenty states have already implemented an online registration system.
