Arrests made in Newberry homicide

The mother and aunt of a five-year-old Newberry boy who died late last month have been arrested. The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office says Valerie Sharonne Owens and Alice J. Owens are charged with Homicide and Child Neglect. Javarian Wallace was pronounced dead after deputies found the victim unresponsive at a home at 616 NW 255^th Drive on December 27^th.  An autopsy the following day showed the victim suffered multiple traumatic injuries to his body.  The investigation is ongoing and the defendants are held without bond.
