UF police searching for sexual battery suspect

One man is facing sexual battery charges relating to an incident that began in midtown Gainesville early this morning. At 2:13 AM University of Florida Police received a call from a bystander helping the battery victim flee her assailant.  Sergeant Kristy Maculan says the female victim had accepted a ride from a person she didn’t know and was then attacked.

The bystander called police and took the victim to Shands.  Maculan says it is important to be very cautious and aware when out in the late night or early morning hours.

The suspect is a black male about 30 years old with full facial hair.  He was last seen wearing a red shirt and jean shorts.  Maculan says he is facing sexual battery charges right now, although more could surface as police get more information from the victim.
