Assessing revenue losses from BP oil spill

State economists are trying to determine how much sales tax and other revenue Florida lost as a result of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill last year. They’ll be crunching those numbers today. Florida then can seek reimbursement from BP. An internal investigation by the owner of the rig that exploded in the Gulf of Mexico last year largley blames oil giant BP for the disaster. The Transocean report released Wednesday says the April 20, 2010, Deepwater Horizon explosion and resulting oil spill was the result of a succession of well design, construction, and temporary abandoment decisions that compromised the integrity of the well and compounded the risk of its failure.
