Police offer reward for information on shooting death

Gainesville Police are asking anyone with information relating to this weekend’s shooting death of 15-year-old Jearicka Mack to come forward. GPD Lieutenant Steven Weaver says they are offering a $1,000 reward for information about the firearm used in the shooting.

“We would like to receive some more information about the gun. Certainly somebody out there has information about the firearm that was used, and we would be very interested in speaking with them,” he says.

He says investigators are still working to determine the motive behind the shooting. GPD says a large group was leaving the Lions Club at 3315 North Main Terrace where it appears a large event was being held. Shots were reported around 12:30 AM Saturday, and Mack was pronounced dead on scene. 17-year-old Dontavious Copeland has been arrested for murder, although Weaver says they have not yet determined the motive behind the shooting.
