UF Board of Trustees Creates New Cabinet Position

University of Florida Board of Trustees members approved the creation of a new cabinet-level position at a meeting on Thursday afternoon. The new position of Vice President of Enrollment Management will also oversee the now-separate office of admissions. UF Provost Joe Glover says it is now a matter of who will fill the position.

“I think there are a couple of potential internal candidates,” says Glover, “and of course the president may choose to do an external search as well.”

UF President Bernie Machen says the university must try to work with the legislature on proposed budget cuts.

“It’s important for the University community to realize that the legislature supports us,” says President Machen, “if they had more resources we would get them, but in this difficult time we must try to work with them and come up with solutions that will be less injurious to us and yet let them balance their budgets.”

Machen adds he is also concerned that proposed legislation will cut salaries for UF employees.
