Great American Clean-up gets local

The nation’s largest community clean-up effort gets underway in Alachua County tomorrow for the Great American Clean-up. Keep Alachua County Beautiful Executive Director, Mickie MacKenzie, says the effort is about more than just planting trees.

“We can plant as many flowers as we want, but unless we have communities that are clean and healthy and safe, we don’t have beautiful communities,” she says.

MacKenzie says the effort will go beyond just cleaning parks and will also include many area communities. She says working on the land gives everyone a sense of ownership and responsibility for the work. The clean-up will begin at 8 a.m. tomorrow at the Albert Ray Massey Westside Park on 34th Street.
