Last Friday we brought you the story of Pat Corcoran, a retired sargeant major and 26-year veteran and purple heart recipient. He is one of the many who served the United States through the military, and valiantly fought some of the bloodiest wars in history. Now, as they battle with the wounds of war like Corcoran did, service men and women are looking to different community organizations willing to lend a hand to those who were willing to lend their lives. Florida's 89.1, WUFT-FM's Luis Giraldo has more on Wounded Warriors in Action, an organization that dedicates its efforts to veterans trying to get by not just physically, but mentally as well.
Wounded Warriors in Action provides opportunities for wounded purple hearts to get a peace of mind through hunting and other sporting opportunities, almost recreating the bond that only service men and women share after their experiences abroad. Tomorrow, Luis Giraldo will have University of Florida student Kayla Mead, a self declared "military brat" who may not have been to war, but has seen its effects through the wounds of her father, who after being hit by an IED started suffering from PTSD.
