King Charles III postpones a trip to France as strikes and protest hobble the country

A protester holds a placard that reads, "destitution of the cursed poet " during a rally in Paris on Thursday. French unions held their first mass demonstrations Thursday since President Emmanuel Macron enflamed public anger by forcing a higher retirement age through parliament without a vote.

Workers already refused to roll out the red carpet for the British monarch’s arrival, originally scheduled for Sunday. The French are protesting a decision to raise the retirement age to 64 from 62.
