"Immunization Champ" crowned in Alachua County

The nation has a new champion, right here in Alachua County.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has named University of Florida Pediatrics Professor Emeritus Parker Small the state’s first “Children’s Immunization Champion.”  Small says targeting school children is vital in order to protect the whole community.

Small says related research has proven immunizing just 20% of Florida’s children provides the same protection to the elderly as immunizing 90% of the over 65 population.  His campaign to immunize Alachua County public school students has gained significant recognition through the CDC.
