Fire risk high with winter season underway

Expect fire activity to rise in the coming months with the start of the winter fire season. Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Ludie Bond says last night's hard freeze was the first of many more to come.

She says low humidity this time of year further adds to those high risk fire conditions.  With the sudden change in conditions, Bond says we have already seen a rise in activity.

The spring months typically see the highest number of fires, but Bond says Florida’s fire season is year round.  She warns all area residents to be careful of any activity that can spark a fire and mindful of all burning restrictions in place.
