By on November 6th, 2012

Republican Ted Yoho has won the 3rd Congressional District, which includes Alachua County, according to The Associated Press.

Yoho, 57, defeated 12-term incumbent U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns of Ocala in August by portraying himself as more conservative than Stearns.

He defeated a little known Democrat, J.R. (Jacques) Gaillot, by 62 percent to 35 percent, with 58 percent of the precincts reporting as of 8:38 p.m. The rest of the vote was garnered by Philip Dodds, an independent.

Yoho is a Gainesville veterinarian.
