Different events on campus and around Gainesville were held to remember the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Student organizations at the University of Florida organized a candlelight vigil in honor of Sept. 11 and the victims of the attacks thirteen years ago. These students shared their own stories of the backlash that followed the attacks.
In 2009, Congress named Sept. 11 a National Day of Service and Remembrance to honor the victims of that infamous day. The bipartisan decision encouraged people to take action, and on Wednesday, the tradition continued in Gainesville.
A video mocking the Islamic prophet Muhammad is attributed to the violence from an armed mob which led to the deaths of a U.S. ambassador and three of his staff members.
UF, and the city of Gainesville, hosted multiple events on Tuesday to honor and remember the victims of September 11. On campus, the Lubavitch-Chabad Jewish Student Center and the Lubavitch-Chabad Student Group hosted a “Good Deed Mitzvah Marathon.”
The event, with almost 3,000 American flags and a live bald eagle, takes place Tuesday evening at Highland Memorial Park
