Here Are Florida’s Counties With The Most Rabies Cases Since 1997

The DOH keeps records of rabies cases by county as far back as 1997. Despite Marion County’s high total of 217, the data actually show the number of rabies cases has steadily decreased in almost every county including Marion during that period.

There’s a Rabies Alert in Marion County Through Mid-September

The Marion County Health Department has issued a rabies alert for an area north of Ocala. This week a raccoon that was found in the area tested positive for the disease.

Raccoon tests positive, Marion County officials issue rabies alert

About two to three people die from rabies in the U.S each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and after signs of rabies in Marion County, officials have issued a warning.

Rabies-infected organs cause concern for those close to recipients

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health agencies are working to make sure recipients of organs from a rabies-infected donor are rabies free.
