Honoring King’s legacy, two lauded at downtown event

On what would have been Martin Luther King’s 84th birthday, people around the nation are celebrating his life, as well as the second inauguration of President Barack Obama. The Martin Luther King Jr. Commission of Florida hosted a variety of events today to mark the occasion at the memorial gardens bearing his name in downtown Gainesville.

Gainesville honors King’s mission of equality with parade

Hundreds attended Gainesville’s Martin Luther King Jr. parade Monday in honor of the civil rights leader. The crowd marched down University Avenue as King and his followers marched for equality in Washington in 1963.
