The effects of the Florida Legislature’s recent “bong ban” on Gainesville are still unclear. There have not been any tangible changes in arrests for illegal drug use or the public image of marijuana.

Controversy remains after Manatee County Sheriff’s Office seized 23 marijuana plants Monday from the home of Cathy Jordan, a wheelchair-bound woman. Jordan is the namesake of a piece of legislation aiming to decriminalize the herb for medicinal purposes, called the Cathy Jordan Medical Cannabis Act.
