In 1967, Owen Holyoak watched the J. Wayne Reitz Union being built. Nearly 50 years later, he stood on the University of Florida campus Thursday and watched parts of it being torn down.

Students at the University of Florida have the opportunity to vote on behalf of a name change for the J. Reitz Student Union. The referendum students are voting on suggests a change in the name to instead honor Vigil Hawkins, an African American who helped to end segregation at UF.
