Gainesville Regional Utilities is facing lower fines for two sewage spills over the summer. Compared to a 140,000-gallon spill in 2005 that resulted in a $10,000 fine, GRU is being fined $7,750 for one sewage spill of nearly 1 million gallons and another of 58,000 gallons.

Gainesville Regional Utilities customers have received phone calls from scammers who may have claimed to be GRU representatives demanding payment and threatening to suspend service.
