The Gainesville Renewable Energy Center received the Forest Stewardship Council’s chain-of-custody certification on Oct. 28. GREC is the first power plant in the country to receive this certification.

The GREC and Gainesville City Commission still have not reached an agreement on the purchase of the biomass plant, and now Commissioner Randy Wells wants reassurance that the plant will not be purchased in the future for less.

A biomass plant is causing more issues between GREC and the city commission as the commission negotiates to buy the plant.
Commissioners agreed to request an administrative hearing with Florida Department of Environmental Protection regarding its intent to issue an air permit to GREC. The request is due Monday.

Gainesville Regional Utilities General Manager Bob Hunzinger announced his resignation in a letter signed by him and Mayor Ed Braddy on Wednesday.
