Gainesville Responds To Low Voter Turnout With Registration Drive

About 86,000 of the 140,000 registered voters in Gainesville voted in the last presidential election. In response to the low voter turnout rates, the city of Gainesville has partnered with the Florida Chamber of Commerce to offer a voter registration drive.

Florida Gov. Grudgingly Oks Online Voter Registration

Gov. Rick Scott signed a bill Friday that mandates online registration in October 2017. Scott said in a letter that he was signing the bill with “hesitation.”

Bill Creating Online Voting Registration Passes First Vote

Senate Bill 228 passed its first round of voting on Tuesday 7 to 2. The bill will make online voting registration possible and enable current voters to update information. If passed, the bill states online services will be available Jan. 1, 2016.

Florida Lawmakers Consider Moving Voter Registration Online

Two bills in the Florida State House of Representatives and Florida Senate are pushing for the creation of an online voter registration system. The Chief Deputy Supervisor of Elections said the goal is to make upcoming elections more cost efficient.
