Beekeeping Certification Gives Florida Inmates Skills For A Second Chance

Seventeen inmates in Lake Butler will be the latest class of certified beekeepers from the the Reception and Medical Center’s Beekeeping Program. The Florida Department of Corrections and the Florida Department of Agriculture created the re-entry program for inmates who were about to be released.

Florida’s Agriculture Industry Continues To Grow

Florida’s agriculture industry is continuing to grow, according to a report released last week by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The report titled “Florida Agriculture: By the Numbers” cited increased sales of oranges, honey and other agricultural commodities.

Invasive snail species could cause more harm than just eating plants

Gainesville’s Division of Plant Industry is leading a program to eradicate the giant African land snail, which can spread meningitis to those who touch the invasive species.
