Officials at Wild Waters Water Park in Ocala are moving forward with plans to phase out the park and turn it into an ecotourism site by 2016. Long-time fans of the park are protesting the loss of one of Florida’s crown jewels. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection hopes to curb the 2 million gallons of water the park drains each month from Ocala’s water system.
The Florida Department of Education released a manual for small-scale horse operation best management practices in order to help preserve the state’s water resources.
Gainesville Regional Utilities is facing lower fines for two sewage spills over the summer. Compared to a 140,000-gallon spill in 2005 that resulted in a $10,000 fine, GRU is being fined $7,750 for one sewage spill of nearly 1 million gallons and another of 58,000 gallons.
Commissioners agreed to request an administrative hearing with Florida Department of Environmental Protection regarding its intent to issue an air permit to GREC. The request is due Monday.
