Mental Health Homeless Population To Receive More Aid

Residents set up their belongings under the pavilion at Grace Marketplace shelter on Wednesday. The shelter, located off Waldo and NE 39th Avenue, provides temporary support for those without concrete living arrangements in Gainesville.

The City of Gainesville and Alachua County Commission discuss implementation of an outreach program for the local homeless population who suffer from mental health issues. The program would provide funding a new locations for residents to live, and a specialized health professional will work closely with the population.

City Commission And Mayor Plan Tax Incentives To Revitalize East Gainesville’s “Food Desert”

Gainesville District 1 City Commissioner Charles Goston, Mayor Ed Braddy and other officials met recently to brainstorm ways to bring supermarkets and restaurants to East Gainesville. That area of town has only two full-service grocery stores, while West Gainesville has 24. Because of the dearth of supermarkets, East Gainesville has been labeled a "food desert," by the USDA.
