City Commission And Mayor Plan Tax Incentives To Revitalize East Gainesville’s “Food Desert”

Gainesville District 1 City Commissioner Charles Goston, Mayor Ed Braddy and other officials met recently to brainstorm ways to bring supermarkets and restaurants to East Gainesville. That area of town has only two full-service grocery stores, while West Gainesville has 24. Because of the dearth of supermarkets, East Gainesville has been labeled a “food desert,” by the USDA.

AT&T, United Way team up to lower high-school dropout rate in Alachua County

A $300,000 grant from AT&T will help the United Way of North Central Florida’s efforts to lower dropout rates in Alachua County high schools.
