One of the largest accredited wildlife sanctuaries, Big Cat Rescue, want to end private possession and breeding of big cats by November. To reach their goal, the sanctuary and a partnered coalition are pushing to get the “Big Cats and Public Safety Protection Act” passed.
A new app called Tiger Selfie hopes to educate people about the abuse big cats endure and discourage people from paying breeders who sell tiger photographs. Fifty percent of proceeds from the app will go to wildlife sanctuaries like Big Cat Rescue.
A petition to the U.S. Department of Agriculture from several animal rights groups is seeking a federal ban on licensees who allow the public to have direct or physical contact with big cats, bears, or nonhuman primates of any age, as well as breeding them. Not every Florida big cat owner agrees with the proposed regulations.
