Mary Alexander was arrested in June for charges of operating an unlicensed assisted living facility and neglecting a disabled or elderly adult. Though officials are still trying to shut her and other unlicensed ALFs down, Alexander believes she’s facing racial discrimination and said she will continue to operate her facilities.
Heritage Senior Living of Ocala was identified as an unlicensed assisted living facility by the Agency for Health Care Administration on June 5, one of seven such citations in North Central Florida in 2013. There have been more statewide, spurring a call for legislative review in 2014.
