Proposal could increase pay for state employees in North Central Florida

The House has proposed a $1,400 pay raise for state employees. The Senate has proposed a 3 percent pay raise for state employees. Members of the House and Senate will have until early May to reach a final decision on the state’s new budget. If passed, the pay raise would take effect Nov. 1.

A panel of Florida lawmakers is considering changing the state pension system that would rid the current system and move employees to a new 401(k)-type plan.
Judge rules on Scott’s prison health care privatization plan, sends to Legislature

John Cooper, a Tallahassee circuit court judge, ruled Tuesday that a plan for prison privatization must be approved by a full Legislature, rather than just a panel. Gov. Rick Scott plans to appeal the decision.
