Researchers in two University of Florida departments are going to partner with Disney's Conservation Fund for research on strategies to help sustain endangered species of butterflies and sea turtles. UF is the only university to partner with Disney in this initiative.

The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners has agreed to help fund the funeral of slain teenager, Robert Dentmond. The Gainesville High School sophomore was fatally shot Sunday night after a standoff with the Gainesville Police officers and Alachua County Sheriff's deputies in the parking lot of the Majestic Oaks Apartments.

Micanopy may soon be home to a new entertainment venue. The Micanopy Town Commission and Planning and Historic Preservation Board recently approved the drafting of an ordinance that would ultimately allow Micanopy Canopy Connection to be used for musical and theatrical performances. Residents who attended the Tuesday meeting applauded the move - saying that it will bring more foot traffic to the town.
