6th Annual MLK Prayer Breakfast commemorates civil rights leader’s life

The sixth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast Thursday morning commemorated MLK’s life and the causes he believed in. Two local residents were also awarded for their contributions to the Gainesville community.

The Dove World Outreach Center, a Gainesville-based church that has sparked international controversy, may be moving to Tampa Bay. The church is well known for its flagrant anti-Islam message, projected in inflammatory acts like Koran burnings and anti-Mohammed Internet videos.

Santa Fe College is hosting a panel of African-American professionals in the health care industry Thursday. The panel will focus on the shortage of American-American men studying in the field.

A drop in Florida citrus crops could potentially increase prices for consumers. UF, the USDA and citrus growers have been investing time and money to come up with “aggressive” research methods to fight Greening and citrus canker.
