Marijuana raid on wheelchair-bound woman sparks controversy

Controversy remains after Manatee County Sheriff's Office seized 23 marijuana plants Monday from the home of Cathy Jordan, a wheelchair-bound woman. Jordan is the namesake of a piece of legislation aiming to decriminalize the herb for medicinal purposes, called the Cathy Jordan Medical Cannabis Act.

Network receives funds to support violence prevention

The Verizon Foundation awarded $20,000 to Peaceful Paths Domestic Abuse Network, a certified domestic abuse network that serves survivors of domestic violence in Alachua, Bradford and Union counties. The network will use the money to support educational programs and social marketing campaigns.

Fighting back against domestic violence

Peaceful Paths, a shelter for victims of domestic violence, held a vigil in downtown Gainesville Thursday in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
