Empty Bowls Luncheon seeks to educate about hunger

The Empty Bowls 2013 Luncheon and Silent Auction will take place place Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church. The second annual event aims to make residents aware of hungry people in their community.

Invasive snail species could cause more harm than just eating plants

Gainesville’s Division of Plant Industry is leading a program to eradicate the giant African land snail, which can spread meningitis to those who touch the invasive species.

Marion County deputies arrest two men after finding meth in a Citra house

Two Citra men fled when they saw Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies, who were following up on a previous case. The deputies searched the house and found methamphetamine and other illegal drugs, as well as a liquid gas generator.
