UF colleges receive funding for research on eye disease, brain injuries

The University of Florida’s College of Medicine and College of Nursing both received grants to further research in their fields and help to make more advances in health. The college of nursing received a donation from a graduate and Research to Prevent Blindness benefitted the college of medicines’s ophthalmology department.
Shands pediatrics to provide care to surrounding cities

Children in Lake City and Ocala will be able to receive care closer to home because of a partnership between their local community community pediatricians and Shands in Gainesville. Specialists from Shands will travel to the cities to provide the same care they provide locally at the hospital.
Government grant makes possible new UF education center for teachers of students with disabilities

UF’s College of Education will receive $25 million over the next five years to help improve the education of special and general education teachers.

A recent journal from the American Cancer Society shows cancer is now the main killer of Hispanics, surpassing heart disease. Dr. Jose G. Trevino of the University of Florida Shands Cancer Center discusses the cause of cancer death for Hispanics.
