Guard Dog To Service Dog: Study Looks At Doberman Health

The University of Florida Small Animal Hospital has started research trials to develop a treatment for dilated cardiomyopathy in Doberman Pinschers. The debilitating disease often prevents the breed from becoming service dogs.

State Pushes For An Increased Number Of Foster Homes

The Department of Children and Families is calling for 30 new foster homes in Florida this year. The Partnership for Strong Families along with current foster parents are using stories from individuals who have experience with fostering to promote the cause.

Food Pantry To Be Established For Florida Campus Community

A survey by the University of Florida Dean of Students found that 10 percent of students surveyed were unable to get enough food. To address this need, a new food pantry associated with the Bread of the Mighty Food Bank will be established for students, faculty and staff.

University Of Florida Taking Steps To Prevent Campus Assaults

The University of Florida is tailoring campus shrubbery and facilities to improve student safety. Recreational facilities will be lit throughout the night and overgrowth trimmed to discourage sexual assaults.
