Eastside High Student To Perform At Army All-American Bowl

A 17-year-old Gainesville high school student has been selected from 2,000-plus nationwide applicants to perform at an upcoming football bowl game.

Cindy Ai, a senior at Eastside High School, is one of 125 students set to perform in the prestigious U.S. Army All-American Bowl marching band during the game's halftime show.

The 17-year-old, who has played the clarinet since she was 9, was recognized for the honor in front of her family, teachers and high school band on Friday at the school.

“She is a great leader,” said Joseph Hughes, Eastside High's band director. “She’s a fantastic musician. She’s an incredible student, and she just really brings the whole package together and helps inspire students – and the teachers, as well."

The game is set for Jan. 7, 2017. Buchholz High School trombonist Ben Harbaugh was also selected to play.
