Authorities say that Assistant County Attorney Robert Livingston of Alachua County fatally shot himself in a canoe on Newnans Lake Tuesday.

Livingston, who had been arrested on suspicion of attempted sexual battery on a child, was reported missing at 10 a.m. on Tuesday after he failed to return as expected from a fishing trip. Deputies were sent out to Newnans Lake to search for him, according to the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.

Livingston was arrested last week on two counts of attempted sexual battery on a child and one count of child abuse. He was released on a $50,000 bond.
