Floridians Cast More Than 1 Million Primary Votes

More than 1 million Floridians have already voted in the Aug. 30 primary elections through early voting and vote-by-mail, according to figures Monday from the state Division of Elections.

As of midday Monday, 877,666 votes had been cast through vote-by-mail, or absentee ballots, and 160,683 ballots had been cast by people going to early-voting locations, which are now available in all 67 counties.

Democrats hold a slight edge in the early voting tally over Republicans, while the GOP has done a better job of getting people to return vote-by-mail ballots. Republicans returned 426,560 vote-by-mail ballots have been returned by Republicans, while Democrats returned 335,761. Non-affiliated voters returned 97,696 and third-party voters registered 17,649.

Among early voters, 74,791 Democrats have gone to the polls, followed by 73,915 Republicans, 10,291 independents and 1,686 third-party members. Florida has slightly more than 12.37 million registered voters for the Aug. 30 primary. Registered Democrats make up about 4.69 million of those voters, while Republicans top 4.43 million. No-party voters total about 2.91 million, while the rest of the voters are registered as members of smaller parties.
