GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida's next athletic director will be an external hire.
University Athletic Association spokesman Steve McClain says three internal candidates — associate ADs Mike Hill, Chip Howard and Lynda Tealer — "have made a decision not to pursue the athletic director position for their own individual reasons." Hill, Howard and Tealer are retiring AD Jeremy Foley's top executives. Foley announced June 13 that he is retiring, effective Oct. 1, after a 40-year career at Florida that included the last 25 as AD. School President Kent Fuchs appointed an eight-person search committee to find potential replacements. Hill has been at Florida since 1993. Howard has been at the school since 1989, and Tealer joined in 2003. It's not known whether they will remain at Florida after a new AD is hired.
