Frederick Gardens Apartments Evacuated After Fire

Three adults, one infant and a dog were removed from their apartment after a fire destroyed their home early Monday.

Firefighters rushed to Frederick Gardens Apartments, located at 1130 SW 16th Ave., at 3:27 a.m. and reported heavy fire from the front door of the building, according to a report from Gainesville Fire Rescue.

The Fire Rescue unit dealt with the fire from the inside of the building while the other crews searched the surrounding apartments that were on fire.

“The fire was out within five minutes of the first units arriving and no victims were found,” said James Lovvorn, the Gainesville Fire Rescue spokesperson.

A resident reported being woken up by the fire alarm to find their apartment on fire. After escaping the apartment, the resident knocked on doors to get others to evacuate the building.

The apartment suffered significant damage and the American Red Cross was called to assist the residents, according to the report.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
