Ocala Student Wins Florida Poetry Competition

TAMPA — An Ocala high school senior will represent Florida in a national poetry recitation contest this spring.

Jarod Atchley of West Port High School won the Florida Humanities Council's "Poetry Out Loud" contest on Saturday in Tampa. He will represent Florida in the national contest in May in Washington D.C.

Second place went to Tatiana Saleh of Jacksonville's Douglas Anderson School of the Arts. Third place was Jillian Miley of Spruce Creek High School in Port Orange.

The Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest is aimed at bringing an appreciation of poetry to high school students nationally.
