Tennessee Volunteers Head Coach Pat Summitt announced yesterday she’s stepping down after 38 seasons. Summit has been battling early on-set dementia. University of Florida gymnastics coach Rhonda Faehn has resigned to take a position with USA Gymnastics.
The University of Florida club baseball team lost to the University of Central Florida Knights during the April 18-19 series in Gainesville, ending the Gators’ season. The UF club baseball team kicked off its alumni weekend on April 17, which included a home run derby pitting current players against club alumni.
Florida Crew had five boats advance to the grand finals at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championship Regatta in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. A handful of races were cancelled due to weather conditions, but the varsity four and Novice eight boats took home silver and bronze, respectively.
Former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez was convicted of first-degree murder on Wednesday. He was sentenced to life in prison for the slaying of Odin Lloyd.
The Florida Gators completed their final spring practice on Thursday. Spring ball ends for the Gators on Saturday when the Gators take the field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium for the Orange and Blue game.
