Fire poses potential problem for Levy County drivers

Goethe State Forest was ablaze earlier tonight in Eastern Levy County. The Florida Highway Patrol says variable winds may move smoke over roadways and affect visibility around the area of State Road 121 and County Road 337. FHP spokesman Lieutenant Patrick Riordan says motorists should be cautious if driving in that area.

“If they’ve got a different route they can take, if in fact that road is affected significantly with smoke, they’d probably be better to take a different route if possible. And if they do have to go through that area, we’d encourage them that they can use their low beam headlights and reduce their speed while they go through there,” he said.

Riordan also adds that the storms moving through the region tonight may help control and settle the fire.
