Disabled veteran tax break amendment winning

As of 8:15 p.m., the Florida Department of State Division of Elections reported 61.64 percent of more than 5 million ballots voted “yes” on Amendment 2. “No” votes accounted for 38.36 percent.

Disabled veterans who weren’t Florida residents before enlisting could qualify for a property tax discount under this amendment. The legislature proposed this as an amendment to the state constitution as a long-term solution. Some argue tax breaks should be placed in the tax code, though.

Sixty percent of votes cast are required for a Florida state constitution amendment to pass.
